Jamworks Pilot Launch

A lecturer helps students working in a computer lab.

We are excited to announce the launch of our next pilot project, in which colleges and universities will get the chance to use Jamworks – a platform that uses AI to transform lecture recordings into well organised notes and interactive study materials – between January and May 2024.

We are now encouraging expressions of interest from both colleges and universities, so if this opportunity sounds appealing, please read the information below to find out more about the project and the process for selecting participants.

The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is Friday 26th January, close of play. We will not be able to consider expressions of interest received after that date.

About Jamworks

Jamworks is a powerful AI notetaking and revision tool that automatically turns lectures into useful study materials – such as well-organised text notes, video chapters, interactive flashcards and personalised AI chatbots.

Jamworks uses AI to capture and organise the important information from lectures, enabling students to engage in the moment without worrying about note taking and then test their knowledge afterwards with relevant learning materials, like lecture summaries, key points and flashcards. By training an intelligent chatbot on every lecture, Jamworks empowers students to grasp confusing subjects and delve deeper into the topics that interest them most.

Jamworks has had particular success in supporting students with additional needs to focus in class, revise from effective notes and thrive academically.

In order to function, Jamworks needs access to lecture recordings. This can be achieved via integrations with Panopto, or by students capturing lectures on their own devices. For the purpose of this pilot, we intend to focus on:

  • Using Panopto (Jamworks has established processes for integrating with Panopto – further details given below)
  • Students capturing the audio from lectures or from existing video recordings of lectures –  providing that this is practical and permitted by the institution’s policies

Jamworks also enables students to capture full video recordings of lectures on their devices. If prospective participants would prefer to allow students to capture video recordings as part of the pilot, please do indicate this as part of your expression of interest, explaining why it would be useful and viable.

Kick off  Early February 2024  Participating individuals will attend an introduction and training session

Technical setup (details below)

Organise and plan introduction and training session
Use the platform  February – May 2024  Deploy Jamworks with students  Regularly check in to support institutions.

Be available to help and address issues as needed

Evaluate the pilot  May – June 2024  Help organise focus groups with staff and students

Help distribute surveys

Create surveys, and deliver focus groups

Analyse insights, and write up an evaluation report

Expected Workload

As part of the pilot, we ask that participating institutions are able to commit to the following:

Appointing a pilot champion who will:

  • Oversee the implementation of the platform
  • Encourage use amongst students
  • Support staff involved in the delivery of the lecture series with implementing Jamworks
  • Monitor the impact of Jamworks
  • Help arrange focus groups with relevant staff and students
  • Distribute and encourage uptake of feedback surveys

Provide support from technical staff to collaborate with Jamworks on integration:

  • For participants who intend to use Jamworks in conjunction with Panopto, Jamworks will share a 5-step process to integrate Panopto to Jamworks which requires a minimal amount of time.
  • All participants will need to provide a CSV list of participating students including students first name, last name, email address and course groups they are enrolled in.

Further Considerations

For this pilot, we will be using features of Jamworks that are designed to work with expositional content, I.e. lectures, as opposed to lessons or more discussion-based seminars/supervisions. When considering whether to express an interest, please consider which lecture series you would want to use the platform for.

Expressing Interest

If you are interested in participating, could you please complete this form before the close of play on Friday 26th January to express your interest.
