AI in FE community November meetup – AI literacy for learners

For our November AI in FE session, we were joined by Adam Leeson, Lead Quality Practitioner in Digital Pedagogy from SMB Group.

Adam led an interactive and insightful session on developing AI literacy. Taking us through their journey to developing staff and learner AI literacy through practical steps like creating policies, staff training, and learner tutorials. Members were also challenged to spot the AI fakes in a selection of images, identify which tools have stricter age limits, and share their views on learner’s use of AI. During the Q and A, discussion included the importance of addressing the environmental and human impacts of AI with learners, and how to improve AI literacy with students even when they can’t access AI tools directly.

New AI literacy training series

Senior AI specialist Paddy Sheppard is hosting a new series of AI literacy training webinars for staff.

These three sessions cover:

  • What is the impact of AI on assessment in FE?
  • How can AI tools improve productivity?
  • How can we develop learners’ AI literacy?

Sessions run through Nov-Dec, see our full announcement for sign-up links and more details.

Nominate your community champion

You can now nominate your community champions.  This is an opportunity to celebrate those who share knowledge and support with other members of the community.

Nominations are open until midnight 15 December 2024.

Successful community champions will enjoy a VIP trip to Digifest, 11-12 March 2025, with UK travel, accommodation covered, and a chance to celebrate with fellow champions.

Join us at next month’s AI in FE session on Tuesday 10th December 12.30-1.30, where we will be joined by Bryony Evett Hackfort, Director of Teaching, Learning and Education at Coleg Sir Gar. Bryony will be presenting her session ‘To AI or not to AI: The Journey So Far’.
