We’re thrilled to introduce new resources designed to help staff build their AI literacy skills. These materials help educators and professional services staff understand and use AI effectively and responsibly.
What have we focused on?
The resources cover several key areas to provide practical and adaptable guidance:
- AI Fundamentals
These resources provide HE and FE staff with a foundational level of AI literacy through clear explanations and practical examples. The content introduces key AI concepts, including generative AI, explains how AI systems are created, and explores their benefits and limitations. Additionally, it addresses ethical considerations and offers guidance on using AI responsibly.
- Using AI as an assistant
Showcases practical ways staff can use AI tools to boost productivity, including automating routine tasks, drafting emails, proofreading, creating presentation outlines, and summarising webpages or PDFs. Each resource features suggested tools, practical prompts, and tips for effective use.
- Using AI for teaching
These resources highlight practical scenarios for using AI tools in tasks like lesson planning, generating discussion topics, designing learning activities, creating multiple-choice questions, and developing assignment scenarios. Each example includes suggested tools and tips to help staff maximise the benefits of AI while complementing their expertise.
You can access and download the resources we’ve created in our AI Explorer Resource Hub under Staff AI Literacy Resources.
How could these resources be used?
Institutions can adapt and integrate these resources into professional development initiatives. For example:
- Developing CPD (Continuing Professional Development) sessions focused on AI literacy for staff.
- Incorporating materials into team meetings or training days.
- Using the resources as a foundation for institution-wide strategies to develop AI literacy.
Institutions are encouraged to customise the materials to align with their unique needs, policies, and approved tools. We welcome your feedback on how you use these resources to help us improve and develop them further.
What’s next?
We’re always looking for ways to expand these resources to better meet staff needs. Future updates may include video demonstrations, additional examples, and further guidance.
We’re excited to see how you’ll use these resources and would love to hear your thoughts. Please share your feedback with us at AI@jisc.ac.uk.
