AI literacy training

AI is playing a growing role in education, creating new opportunities for teaching, administration, and learning. Developing AI literacy is key to understanding its practical applications, limitations, and ethical considerations. To support staff, we offer a mix of live training sessions and flexible, self-paced digital learning modules.

These training opportunities provide a range of ways to explore AI, from live sessions to independent learning.

Live training sessions

We run online live sessions throughout the year, covering various aspects of AI in education. New sessions are added regularly, so it is worth checking our Jisc training page for availability and booking. Alternatively, you can access the presentations or view the recordings.

About the training sessions:

  • Getting started with generative AI in education – This session is designed to explore generative AI and its potential in education. We introduce the basics of AI, focusing on its practical applications and responsible use in educational settings.
  • What is AI safety and why does it matter for education? – This session focuses on AI safety, its challenges, and best practices for responsible use in teaching, learning, and education.
  • How can AI tools improve productivity? – Exploring AI tools for personal assistant tasks, enhancing workflow efficiency, improving communication, and considering environmental sustainability.
  • Developing AI literacy for learners and students – Exploring how to build AI literacy, equipping students with the skills for an AI-driven future.
  • What is the impact of AI on assessment in FE? – Exploring how AI is impacting assessment methods, considering fairness, and promoting critical thinking.
  • AI for accessibility – Helping educators understand how to ensure AI accessibility, leverage its benefits effectively, and be aware of potential issues.
  • Getting creative with AI – Explore AI’s role in art, music, writing, and design, with demonstrations using tools like Synthesia and DALL-E. Reflect on AI-assisted creativity, its capabilities, limitations, and responsible use in the creative process.

Digital learning modules

These short digital learning modules provide structured, self-paced learning and are delivered using our online course support functionality within Microsoft Teams. New places are released on the first of every month.

About the digital learning modules:

  • Artificial intelligence and ethics – A 30-minute digital learning module exploring AI’s ethical implications and why it can feel both useful and unsettling. Through videos, articles, and exercises, it covers AI applications, societal concerns, and responsible AI use, helping participants reflect on their own AI interactions.
  • An introduction to generative AI in education – A one-hour digital learning module designed to help educators understand generative AI technology and its impact on education. Through videos, research, and discussion forums, it explores AI tools, their role in teaching and learning, accessibility, and regulation.
