Data from UCAS shows the number of young people applying for degrees in artificial intelligence are rising, even as wider computing applications fall. The rise in AI applications includes a 15% increase among women and a 12% increase among men. The increase in AI applications, especially among women, is seen as a positive step towards a more diverse tech workforce.

Google AI Mode – a new way to search, whatever’s on your mind
Google’s AI Mode is a new feature in Search that offers AI-generated responses to complex queries. Powered by Gemini 2.5, it supports multimodal inputs like text, voice, and images, and provides follow-up questions and relevant web links for deeper exploration.
OpenAI has launched Codex, a cloud-based AI coding agent integrated into ChatGPT. Designed to assist developers, Codex can write features, fix bugs, and propose pull requests within isolated environments preloaded with the user’s codebase. It’s currently available to ChatGPT Pro, Team, and Enterprise users, with plans to extend access to Plus and Edu subscribers soon.
