Some news! A change of name.

Some news! We’ve decided to simplify how we describe our work, so we are going to retire the name ‘National Centre for AI in Tertiary Education’.

The name has served us well, especially as it describes exactly what we do, but much has changed since we formed the team nearly three years ago.  At the time, AI was very much a niche activity, and our challenge was getting people interested in AI.  It’s now being embedded in everything we do, and the concept that we can have a single ‘centre’ that owns AI makes much less sense.

So going forward, we are just going to label our work as ‘Artificial Intelligence’ – potentially with qualifiers if we need to make it clear we are talking about, say, education or research.

There’s no other change. Our team, roles, and the work we are doing will stay the same.  We’ll be updating our web pages, blogs etc to reflect the change over the next few days or so.  Our main web page has already been updated. We’ll ensure all links to our resources continue to work as they always have.

So farewell National Centre for AI in Tertiary Education! You were a long name, one that we’ve had to repeat many, many times at events over the last two years.  And hello and welcome to the much simpler idea of talking about Jisc’s work on artificial intelligence.

I colead our AI team. We support the responsible and effective adoption of artificial intelligence across the tertiary education sector, through a range of pilots, advice, guidance, and community support activities. Before joining Jisc I worked in the University sector, leading IT and educational technology services. Since joining Jisc, I have worked on a wide range of projects, including leading the development of our learning analytics service.
